hi my mom bought herself a blackberry and gave me her T|E|2 and i wanted to put some videos on it and yet I’ve stumbled apon the fact that the Palm OS file 4 TCMP ive come across from 3 different sites are all for pocket PCs and the link u posted is a dead one so i was wondering if you might e-mail me the prc file for said app or post it somewhere n send me a link.

As to the ‘matroska’ thing, I didn’t run into such message when I installed the program, as far as I remember. In fact, I’d not bother unless I need to manipulate Matroska (.mkv) video files in VDmod. That is a very rare video format, and I don’t think many people would be using it. I don’t know how to update that either.

Btw, I assume you’re aware VDmod (or VD) won’t open .WMV files. Just a note.

Thanks for all the info. With it, in addition to what I already had I am merrily making everything I like into palm sized avi’s. FYi, I have used DVD decriptor, more recently I use AnyDVD because its so much easier. From there DVD shrink works great for backups. So I have experimented with Virtualdub for a while to make palm E2 stuff but with limited success.And Super also but its so slow. Then DVD Mobile but why pay for what you can get free especially if in the case of both VDubMod and Vemode they work as well or better. Now that I have found VDMod and your kind directions I am running along like clockwork. The Vemode program also looks very promising and I made a mini last night with it. Great also! Very easy but more limited. I downloaded and installed AC3ACM v1.4 by fccHandler to overcome a little glitch I had with VDMod and also your suggested xvid codec and well thats it. I am set. Problem solved in a day, when I have sought solutions for quite awhile. Thanks much. When I first installed it VDMod,it mentioned something about an outdated Metroska file. I went on and everything worked but I should have written it down. Know what it might refer to, and how to install said file? I would probably have to reinstall to see massage again and when it ain’t broken you know…

Hi Jalil,

The version I use is 1.5.10.1 — it’s mentioned above by the way. The difference in colors is due to me applying a different Windows XP theme i.e. has nothing to do with different versions.

As to the missing Xvid MPEG-4 codec, you need to download the latest version of Xvid;
http://downloads.xvid.org/downloads/xvidcore-1.1.0.zip

You should find “Stream List” or “Audio list”, or something like these…

I recommend trying Vemode before trying my guide. It automatically does the whole thing for you. Check comment # 4 above.

Dear Friend,
I am really trying to fllow your procedures on the virtualdub software, but it seems that I havent been able to download it complete. Dont know why. I pressed your link “‘VirtualDubMod’ then downloaded:

So then a winZip file apeared, I extracted everything and executed it.
Problems I noticed, I couldnt find “Xvid MPEG-4 Codec” and also “Stream list”… SO maybe I have to install something else.
By the way, the apearence of your virtual dub (those grey/black white colors) is different from the one I downloaded…mine is only beige..Seems like you have a newer version, which I cannot find on the link you mention…

A nice idea to know the right proportions is to open an image editor (e.g. Photoshop), then in the Resize window, with constant/ratio proportions set to OFF. Type in the original dimensions. Then, set it to ON, and type in the Width value for your handheld (i.e. 320px or 480px), you’ll get the right Height value!

Another way is to use the ’scissors’ mechanism;

e.g. original video dimensions = W 600 x H 300
Height for handheld Hh = “Wh (320 or 480) x W 300″ / H 600

You might want to try Vemode, a utility to automatically convert videos to handheld versions. It didn’t work for me, but it did for many others.

Thanks. I’ve had problems getting this to work with widescreen video files that I’ve downloaded at places, though, even when I change the resize to match the new proportions. Something about the input video or audio format?
