While the aftermath of the derogatory cartoons of the prophet of Islam Muhammad has been very fierce, and while most of the christians (westerners) encouraged such acts and supported Denmark, where the Muslims around the world felt disgusted by that so-called free speech which could not be entitled but a racist, childish and shallow view of other religions. While all of this has been happening, there are somethings that should be cleared up.
First off, I’ve come across the post ‘Buy Danish!’ at ConservativeForce‘s blog. There I’ve seen very shallow and hostile comments to Muslims and Islam. It seems they think all Muslims are Bin Ladens or something. When I confronted the owner of the blog as to this, he replied that he only meant Islamofascists. I take this as hypocritical for he has published the derogatory cartoons of Muhammad. Then he meant Muhammad was an Islamofascist, and all muslims then are ones, too.
Please read this post carefully if you know little or nothing at all about Islam.
What’s the meaning of the word ‘Islam’ ?
‘Islam’ is an arabic word which originates from the word ‘salam’. The latter means ‘peace’. It also originates from ‘tasleem’ that means ‘seeking help from God only and not from others’
So how could Islam supports terrorism? How could it support hating of non-muslim nations? That is totally wrong.
What’s the meaning of the word ‘Muslim’ ?
Obviously the word ‘Muslim’ comes from ‘Islam’. But while ‘Islam’ is the noun, ‘Muslim’ is the adjective. A muslim is a person who is peaceful, and seeks help from God only and not from others.
Muslims are to live in peace and harmony with people of all other religions. For knowledge, Islam is the only religion that officially believes in Moses and Jesus, and the corresponding religions of theirs. For in Islam there is only One God. He sent many prophets to the humanity, including Abraham, Noah, Loot, Saleh, Hood, Moses, Jesus, and finally Muhammed.
Here comes the critical question that most of westerners would ask; If Islam supports peace and Muslims should do so, why are muslims doing such terrorist attacks allover the world?
In short: those who do such terrorism are muslims that misunderstood the true meaning of Islam. Why? Let’s trace the story from the beginning.
Islam was one of the most powerful and most intelligent empires in the world. By its kind way of teaching, and the democracy it supported, it reached Persia (Iran now), until its border with India now eastwards, and spain westwards. When Muhammad and the most faithful leaders of Islam died, Islam fell. Islamic countries have gradually become poorer. Poverty is a dangerous state. It’s literally a disease.
People have modified the text of the ‘Hadith’ (the talk and commandments of Muhammad) introducing statements that flows according to their own desires and personal needs. And since poor people are typically ignorant, they would not notice, or even care, for they searched for food and shelter while their Islamic text was being changed.
In a few centuries, most of the Muslims became totally or partially unaware of the dignity and true commandments in Islam. Together with weak economical and political states, some Muslims have been ‘transformed’ into what we call terrorists or ‘Islamofascists’.
What’s the meaning of the word ‘Islamofascist’ ?
Islamofascist is a violent, narrow-minded, extreme and a hostile Muslim who thinks all other religions do not deserve to be, and that all non-muslim nations deserve terror and death. He/She believes in this due to all or some of the following:
- Low economical state
- Low social state
- Misleading education
- Low IQ and natural hostile behavior
- Massive amounts of spare time
- Massive amounts of money (like the case with Bin Laden)
It must be mentioned that Islamofascists are a very few samples that live within the muslim society, and that they do not – by any means – reflect the true beliefs of real, peaceful muslims. They require re-education and enlightment as to what they’re doing. They require psychological and behavioral medication.
Famous Islamofascists (not real Muslims): Osama Bin Laden and Ayman Al-Zawaheri.
On the contrary, I’d like to mention names of some muslims who have given a lot to humanity:
– Prof. Ahmed Zuwail : winner of Nobel prize in chemistry
– Naguib Mahfouz : winner of Nobel prize in Literature
– Farouk Al-Baz : head of NASA – training department, USA
What can I do to know the real truth about Islam ?
1. I recommend checking out these documentaries and books:
2. I’ve recently added a few questions that you – as a westerner – may have asked yourself:
- Did Muhammed Lead A Violent Life?
- Did Muhammed Ever Torture His Enemies?
- Does Islam Forbid Befriending Non-Muslims?
- or Do Muslims Hate Non-Muslims?
- Why Muslims Are So Upset Over Cartoons?
3. Visit ‘real’ Islamic websites and read thoroughly. I recommend: IslamOnline. Beware of the thousands of anti-islamic websites that are there, e.g. Answering-Islam.com
List of ‘fake’ islamic or anti-islamic websites (updated regularly):
4. I also recommend manipulating the whole thing in your mind. Think about it. How could a religion that you think is violent spread that fast and wide? How could there be more than a billion of followers? Just think about it.
Here’s a quote from a reviewer who read the Biography of the Prophet, Muhammad:
Muhammad, his story, his religion, and his people are among the least understood elements of world history to your average Westerner. The information we are bombarded with today portrays Muslims as terrorists, anti-western, blood-thirsty savages. This book endeavors to release the Western mind from the bonds of ignorance and the blinders of propaganda, and reveal a Prophet, and a people, with a real, sometimes tragic and sometimes triumphant history, with a conclusion of remarkable success. Whether you agree with Muhammad or not, you will finish this book appreciating his genius, his faith, his leadership, and his accomplishments.
I hope this article has enlightened your ideas about Islam, at least a little.
This is a question from a guy from Venezuela. Answer taken off IslamOnline.
Jesus never killed anyone. Is that also true of Muhammad? Did Muhammed spread his religion by conquest?
Concerning what you said about Jesus not killing any one, we can tell you that Prophet Muhammad never killed any one too. But, Jesus’ mission was to guide people peacefully and in a land, which was occupied by a foreign power, and under siege, there was no liberty or freedom to allow Jesus to work openly or to oppose the authority in power. It was not the aim of Jesus to build a state. That is why we find that the people who followed him were small in number and influence. Though in the New Testament and in the four Gospels, in particular, Jesus did ask his followers to carry their swords and to follow him, he clearly said that he came not only to cast peace but also to set fire. He asked his disciples to be ready to sacrifice their lives for his cause.
Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) never raised or commanded any of his followers to raise a sword against his enemies in Makkah. Rather, he ordered them to remain patient and steadfast (despite all the persecutions and torture displayed by the Quraish against them). But when he moved to Madinah, Allah commanded him to establish the Muslim State, and this necessitated some sort of power and authority. Nonetheless, he was ordered not to resort to force in dealing with people disbelieving in him until after exhausting all peaceful means. For example, he concluded a peace treaty with the Jews acknowledging their religious and political rights and giving them the same rights as Muslims to live in Madinah and to run their own society in accordance with their own religion with no interference from Muslims. But all this did not prevent the Pagans of Makkah, aided by their Jewish allies in Madinah, to launch an attack against the Muslim State, so the war took place.
Here, we may bring to your notice that even though the war between the Muslims and non-Muslims in Arabia was very much limited and was under tough conditions, it was a sort of self-defense and with aim of preserving the creed and defending the newly-established State.
Muhammad was not only a prophet like Jesus or Moses (peace and blessings be upon them all) but he was a prophet and a statesman and his mission was a universal one. Along this line, Prophet Muhammad delivered his message outside Arabia through peaceful means. He performed peace treaties even with the polytheists in Makkah, received Christian delegations in his mosque and conducted a dialogue with them in the best decent manner ever existed. While still in Makkah, he sent a delegation to the Christian country, Abyssinia, and the history also recorded that its king, Negus, who was also at the helm of the Christian hierarchy, was held in high esteem by Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
War in Islam is only legitimate if it is for self-defense or as a means to defend the religion, tradition, and the way of life as believed by Muslims. Even if the war takes place between Muslims and non-Muslims, there are certain religious and human conditions that should be taken into consideration. For example, the civilians should not be attacked, the crops should not be destroyed, and the water supply and other means of living should not be ruined.
Any other Muslim who goes astray off these rules is not a devout Muslim, and does not behave on behalf of other good Muslims.
