99, again!   4 comments

After a painful wait, I’ve just received my score report, saying that I passed the USMLE Step 2 CK exam with a score of:

99/256

I’m thrilled!

You can read about this in detail here.

I’ve talked about that on Facebook and on other medical forums, but I’d forgotton to mention it here in my beloved blog! How shameful!

Well, I’m glad to say that I passed the USMLE Step 1 with a score of:

99/241

You can read about my exam experience, my score reporting thread, and a few questions that I’d written before I took the exam.

I’m currently preparing for Step 2 CK.
Best of luck to everyone preparing for the USMLE (or any other exam!).

I’m dONE with Step ONE   5 comments

Finally, and after 8 months of full-time preparation, I took my USMLE Step 1 exam (on Wednesday). You can read about my exam experience here. I had a lot of crazy stuff going on, including:

  • Cockroach swarms in my hotel room, in the bathroom, on the bed, everywhere. Butlers aren’t really concerned, because “they are just tiny cockroaches”. Thankfully, I managed to change the room. But I’m not going to that hotel again!.
  • Taxi driver who bought the taxi for his brother-in-law to work on, but the latter won’t show up, because he has a prolonged “cold”. Of course the man had to pay the checks himself, implying “give me more money you son of a b****!”.
  • The chair in the testing center felt like a rocking chair, so I had to change it.

Anyway, I’m glad I’m done with this pretty annoying step, and looking forward to the more clinically-relevant exam, Step 2CK.

Medical Professionals Quitting The Game   Leave a comment

229 - exit sign

Through reading in random medical blogs and forums, I regularly come across medical professionals – medical students or medical doctors – who decided to quit the profession of medicine. Most of those people give reasons like having been really exhausted in their medical tasks. Some also say they discovered that medicine is not about ‘helping people’; rather, it’s just a tough technical job. And that they did not want to have a lifetime of continuous exhaustion.

It sounds really shocking to see people who had gone through all this long tedious journey quitting the whole thing in a second. And although statistics show that 50% of medical students suffer from burnout, and that 10% have suicidal ideation, it’s still out of question for most people to quit medicine. Not to mention those who had already had a job, medical doctors I mean. Why do they leave it?

Not that I feel like quitting, but from a curious perspective, I wonder how it feels like to go through this. How it feels like quitting medicine. What are the real reasons, and what are those people supposed to do to make a living afterwards?

Has anyone gone through this or know someone who has? Please comment here if so.

Internal Medicine Exams Done. What’s Next?   Leave a comment

doctor-128

Finally, we’ve finished our Internal Medicine exams. They were OK for the most part. There are a lot of points I wanted to talk about (mostly negatives), but I’m out of time and concentration at present. There haven’t been much updates lately as you might have noticed, as I’m going through my Pediatrics exams now. I’ll be done in a couple of weeks. I’m looking forward to the vacation afterwards. It’s really been so tiring.

Exam was OK   Leave a comment

The exam was surprisingly easy. Just a bunch of common topics. Nothing special. Even the case scenario was incredibly easy to figure out. I’ll try to write the questions up at Medicopedia as soon as possible, anyway. I’ll try to refrain from posting here until something special comes up. I don’t want the blog to be boring 🙂 .
